| Mommy's- to- be need to exercise too! A decade ago, pregnant women were told to stay off of their feet and rest as much as possible. Today, expectant mothers are encouraged to remain active during the entire nine months. Exercise is key as long as the correct precautions are taken, and you have a doctors approval. There are many physiological, psychological and physical benefits to exercising during pregnancy: Physiological benefits include increased aerobic capacity (helpful for the endurance demands of labor and delivery), improved circulation and digestion, increased energy, and more restful sleep. Psychological benefits include reduced tension, anxiety, and fatigue, improved self-image an enhanced feeling of well-being. Psycho-social benefits include bonding and sharing their pregnancy with other pregnant woman if they exercise together. Physically, keeping the body strong and toned will aid in lessening problems associated with pregnancy, such as lower back strain, and may help in recovery and losing weight faster after giving childbirth.
